    Hi, guys!!!

Today you're going to ask interesting questions to everyone!

Please, record your voice to make 5 questions about anything you would like to know about any one in the class.

Don't ask questions directly to any particular person.  Just make questions out loud using the simple past or the preesent perfect.

    Here's an example:
           - Have you ever visited the US?
           - Did you have fun last weekend?

It should be only easy questions.  Nothing too fancy or too daring, ok?

When you're done, please send me the files so I can send them to everyone and they can answer your questions as well...

After that, click on the following links to practice with some exercises:

"All Summer in a day" by Ray Bradbury

    “Ready?”

    “Ready.”

    “Now?”

    “Soon”

“Do the scientists really know?  Will it happen today, will it?”

    “Look, look.  See yourself!”

The children pressed to each other like so many roses, intermixed, looking out at the hidden sun.

It rained.  As always for the last seven years.

It had been raining for seven years; thousands and thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the other with rain water, with the sweet crystal fall that showers and the concussion of storms so heavy they were tidal waves comve over the islands.  A thousand forests times to be growing again.  And this was the way life was forever on the planet Venus and this was the schoolroom of the children of the rocket men and women who had come to a raining world to set up civilization and live out their lives.

    “It’s stopping, it’s stopping!”

    “Yes, yes!”

All day yesterday they had read in class about the sun.  About how like a lemon it was, and how hot.  And they had written small stories or essays or poems about it:

I think the sun is a flower,

That blooms for just one hour.

That was Margot’s poem, read in a quiet voice in the silence of the classroom while the rain was falling outside.

“Aw, you didn’t write that!” Protested one of the boys.

“I did,” said Margot.  “I did.”

    “William!” Said the teacher.

But that was yesterday.  Now the rain was slackening, and the children were grouped in the great windows.

    “Where’s the teacher?”

    “She’ll be back.”

“She’d better hurry, or we’ll miss it!”

The others didn’t like Margot because she was so smart and today she said that she remembered the sun.

“But that was seven years ago!” Said the children.  “You couldn’t possibly remember.  I think you’re inventing things.”

“I remember!”  She said.  “It’s like a penny.  Like a yellow penny.”

“You’re lying.  Liar!  Liar!”  They sang.

“It’s like a fire,” she said, “in the stove.”

    “You’re lying, you don’t remember.”

Now she tried to look out the window.

“Get away!” Said the children.  “You will not see anything today!”

    “But I want to see!”

“You saw it seven years ago!”  They said. “You have to let us see it now!”

They took her arm and made her walk all the way to the empty room in the end of the hall, where there were no windows.

“No!” She screamed.  “I want to see it! It’s the most beautiful thing in the universe!”

They locked the door and ran back to the windows where the teacher was waiting now.  They heard muffled cries behind the door but they didn’t care.

    “Where have you been, boys?”

Now the rain had finally stopped.

It was as if an avalanche, a tornado, a hurricane, a volcanic eruption, something had stopped because everything was so silent now. The expectation was so great that you couldn’t even hear people’s breath.

“Oh, it’s better than the sun lamps, isnt’ it?”

    “Much, much better!”

They stopped running and stood in the great jungle that covered Venus, that grew and never stopped growing as you watched it.

The children lay out, laughing, on the jungle and heard the animals among the trees.  They pushed each other, the played       hide-and-seek, but most of the time, they squinted at the sun until they started crying, they put their hand up to that yellow circle on the sky and that amazing blueness and they breathed the fresh, fresh air and listened and enjoyed the silence without rain.

    And then-

In the middle of their running one of the girls screamed.

    Everyone stopped.

The girl, standing in the open, held her hand up.

“Oh, look, look,” she said, trembling.

They came slowly to look at her opened palm.

In the center of it, was a small tiny raindrop.

She began to cry, looking at it.

    “Oh, oh.”

A boom of thunder scared them again.

“Will it be seven more years?”

    “Yes.  Seven”

Then one of them began to cry too.

    “Margot!”

    “What?”

“She’s still in the closet where we locked her.”

    “Margot.”

They walked slowly down the hall in the sound of cold rain.  They turned along the doorway to the room in the sound of the storm and thunder, a lightning on their faces, blue and terrible.  They walked over to the closet door slowly and stood by it.

Behind the closet door was only silence.

They unlocked the door, even more slowly, and let Margot out.
